City pursues historic designation for downtown

The city of Newton is one step closer to getting its downtown district on the National Register of Historical Places.The city council on Tuesday night approved a contract with Acme Preservation Services for $8,863.79. Acme will prepare and submit an application to the N.C. State Historic Preservation Office and prepare a nomination for the National Register of Historical Places.
